Customers from belgium would like to pleace an order in my webshop

As the title says, customers from belgium would like to place an order in my webshop.

Edensbakehouse.nl

My settings for payment and shipments are now set for my domestic region (the netherlands).

I would like to activate the belgium market without activating the whole EU region.

If I set shipment requirements for belgium and i activate Bancontant (a belgium payment provider, here in the netherlands we have iDeal).

I get a message saying that in order to activate the belgium market i have to set shipment requirements for all the countries in EU.

That is something I don't want.

I just want to make it so that people from belgium and the netherlands can place and pay an order in my webshop.

Please help!

Hi @EdensBakehouse

It sounds like you're trying to expand your Shopify store to Belgium while keeping it separate from the rest of the EU, but Shopify is requiring you to configure shipping for all EU countries when you activate the Belgian market. This is a common issue because Shopify treats the EU as a single economic region when setting up markets.

Here’s How You Can Solve This:

  1. Create a Custom Market for Belgium Only:

    • Go to Settings > Markets in your Shopify admin.
    • Click Add Market and name it Belgium (instead of activating the whole EU).
    • Add Belgium as the only country in this new market.
    • This ensures Belgium is treated separately from the general EU settings.
  2. Set Up Shipping for Belgium Without Affecting the Whole EU:

    • Go to Settings > Shipping and Delivery.
    • Under General Shipping Rates, click Manage Rates.
    • Click Create Shipping Zone and name it Belgium.
    • Select Belgium as the only country in this zone.
    • Set up your preferred shipping rates for Belgian customers.
  3. Enable Bancontact Without Activating the Whole EU:

    • Go to Settings > Payments.
    • Click Manage next to your payment provider.
    • Enable Bancontact for the Belgium market.
    • Your Dutch customers will still use iDeal while Belgian customers can now pay via Bancontact.

Why Does Shopify Ask for the Entire EU?

When activating a specific EU country, Shopify sometimes requires shipping settings for all EU countries. This happens if your default market is set to "European Union" instead of individual countries. By creating a dedicated Belgium market, you can avoid this requirement.

Final Check:

  • If Shopify still asks for EU-wide settings, check under Settings > Markets > Primary Market.
  • If the Netherlands is set as your Primary Market, you should be able to add Belgium separately without activating all of the EU.

This setup should allow customers from Belgium and the Netherlands to place orders without forcing you to enable the entire EU region.

If you run into any issues, let me know and I'll be happy to assist further!

Best regards,
Daisy
