Accepting credit cards, warehouses, and shipping and fulfilling orders
Any suggestion on how this can be handled as uk customers place orders. Thanks Jim
I was thinking about the same as Shopify prices do not allow purchase without VAT once u pick VAT inclusive prices.
e.g. if customer order below the threshold, lets say they pay £90 and then you can see VAT in invoice - this is easy
if order is £200 (VAT inclusive) -- they pay £200, but because they are not charged VAT, they will have to pay VAT and customs on £200 -----> this means they could be paying £250, as with without VAT the actual price is around £160.
I really think Shopify needs to look at the way the prices appears. Non VAT charging zones/countries, should be able to purchase orders exclusive of VAT, it's obvious to me they are not ready for the EU market to be honest. If price is £40 minus VAT, then customers outside of that taxing region should be able to purchase at £40, not the VAT added price.
Please note that for us we are just dealing with Republic of Ireland and N.I for now so it's easy, except I need to restrict order from other part of UK and can't do that for now without UK Zones, so it's very likely we will be cancelling orders.
We are considering setting up a UK website for other UK customers, but I think we will be looking at another platform, that can deal with UK taxes better, at this point Shopify is struggling IMHO.
Just noted that the issue with VAT exclusive prices has been dealt now, at least some good news, but it does not work for us in southern Ireland as it is applying wrong tax for Northern Ireland.
If you are from the UK, that's one issue sorted.
