Accepting credit cards, warehouses, and shipping and fulfilling orders
Hi All,
I need your advice about setting up our checkout page.
The billing address must be the shipping address to avoid fraudulent orders.
Can it be set up that if the person puts in a different shipping than the billing, the order will decline?
Or, can we set up so that if they add their billing, the shipping address defaults automatically to the billing address?
Hi @noir8
By default, Shopify cannot decline orders if the billing address and shipping address do not match. You will need a third party app like Beacon to automate the payment decline.
However, there are two workarounds that i can think of without the need of an app. You can remove the shipping column in the checkout so that the customer will only need to enter a billing address within the product page.
Or you can set Shopify to use the shipping address as the billing address by default, but the billing address can still be edited.
I hope this answers your question?
Thanks, Jason. We found that the only way to improve our default settings for our checkout was to perform them through our Authorize.net gateway which helped a lot.
Hi.. we recently had a lot of fraudulent orders , and lookifn to have something to for the same ship to as the bill to adress.. I just read that the beacon app can yo this.. and about the autorize.net. ?? you find this is a good payment gateway to avoid chergeback , or fraudulent orders for stolen credit card ??
let me know.
thanks
Hello Madmax3,
Authorize.net has excellent fraud prevention options for you to select, such as the billing address and shipping address must be matched before processing the order.
This is a way to prevent a person from winning a chargeback if filed after placing the order or another scenario, someone who has obtained/stolen a credit card or card number and using it to place an order and shipping it to a location of their choice.
Shopify does not offer this feature.
Best of luck to you.
Shopify charges you a fee, as does Auth.net.
You have to decide; if your situation is dire and you need a higher level of security, then Auth.net is a good option. There be others.
We are using Shopify Plus for one of our plans and the regular plan for another site.
Yes, we pay a % for utilizing Auth.net.
The best advice I can offer is for you to contact Shopify through their chat and Auth.net and ask them for their terms for your business type.
Shopify is limited and will require you to manually review each order and accept each one based on criteria you consider important. It all will come down to man hours versus % what you are willing to pay per order to process.
Yes, with Beacon, you can track these risk signal if the billing/shipping address does not match along with other risk signals you can customize to your liking. The system will be able to take automated actions based on your settings that includes automatically cancel/voiding the order or holding it for review or verification.
