I recently have moved my store location to another country (I have moved from UK to NZ).
I was suprised to see that the Shopify Payments Credit Card fees jumped from:
1.9% + 20p for all transactions (Shopify Plan) UK
2.5% + $0.30 NZD for domestic transactions and;
3.4% + $0.30 NZD for international/AMEX transactions (Shopify Plan) NZ.
I was wondering what the reason is for this difference in credit card fee and whether someone could please explain this?
Thanks so much!
Thank you for getting in touch. I do not know the reasoning behind the processing fees we have set for Shopify Payments, but they do vary region-by-region. It may just be that the processing fees are generally higher in New Zealand than the UK and as a result merchants based in New Zealand are required to pay more in terms of fees per transaction. I can confirm that the fees set for the different countries where Shopify Payments is available are variable and independent of each other, and can be viewed by referencing the different regional pricing pages that we have.
