Does My Client’s Business Fall Under Shopify’s Prohibited Businesses List?

Hi Shopify Community,

I’m setting up a Shopify store for my client, and I want to ensure their business complies with Shopify’s policies before moving forward.

Their business is a luxury purse rental service, where customers rent designer handbags under either a 3-month rental contract (swapping one bag per month) or a 72-hour special occasion rental. Customers pay for the rental of a specific purse, and they must sign a contract agreement before renting.

I need clarification on the following:

  1. Does this business model fall under Shopify’s list of prohibited businesses?

  2. Would Shopify Payments be available for this business, or would my client need to use a third-party payment provider?

I’d appreciate any insights or guidance before proceeding with the setup. Thanks in advance!

This is absolutely possible, some good examples are Statement Downtown and Cocoon Club.

Would love to help with this, we provide this rental membership functionality in Shopify with Supercycle.

In summary:

1) not prohibited
2) possible on Shopify Payments

Co-Founder of Supercycle - enable circular commerce, such as rental and resale, natively on Shopify.
