Double Shipping Charges On Mixed Cart Orders (one time vs subscription)

So I have the same problem referenced in this discussion:

We use recharge for subscriptions and advance shipping rules for all of our shipping rates. When a customer tries to check out with a mixed cart including subscriptions and one time items, our shipping rates are being added together and they end up at twice the original amount. For example, standard shipping is $5.50 but in the mixed cart the rate is $11.

ASR and Recharge are both pretty important to us, as we have multiple product groups on there set up with different rates as well as trying to increase our subscriptions. So getting rid of either is not an option at this time. Does anyone have any ideas for a workaround? Thanks!
