Edit Metafields in Native Shopify Orders

Does anyone know if it's possible to edit order metafields via the GraphQL API or if this is a feature that Shopify plans to integrate into their native editing of orders. Not being able to edit metafields creates big problems for those of us with custom sites and complex products since the only apps that can edit these orders create all sorts of accounting issues.
