Re: Flat Rate Shipping with Multiple Fulfilment Locations

Flat Rate Shipping with Multiple Fulfilment Locations

I charge $8.99 flat rate shipping  or free shipping on orders of $100 or more. I use one drop shipper (fulfillment service). I recently added another drop shipper(fulfillment service)  to add more variety to my inventory. Shopfiy is making me set up rates for each drop shipper separately and if a customer chooses items from both of them they are being charged double shipping. I just want a general shipping profile that is not tied to who or where it comes from.

How do I have a flat rate shipping with two fulfillment services? I read the different Shopify articles on shipping but I dont see this option. It is such a simple concept, I'm sure I must be missing something.

Thank you!

Hi @Lael_Harrelson,

Shopify currently combines rates natively if you have multiple shipping profiles, or have multiple locations within profiles.

To handle it accurately, you will have to use an app that lets you create multiple rules to allow you to always charge exactly what you want.

Many people are facing the same problem as you and I have included some workaround in this post. You can also find some third-party app that works on your case as well.

Hello! Thank you for replying. I did not see any workarounds in the page link you sent that applied to the question. Did I miss something? Thanks.

Hey Lael, I'm aware it's been some time since your original post, but just leaving this answer here in case your or someone else finds it valuable. As JohnHa mentioned, you'll need another app (like Starshipit or others) to create the rules you need. It's quite simple - here's a guide on rules with Starshipit.

Hi @Lael_Harrelson,

As John has mentioned here, Shopify currently combines the shipping rates if you have two different shipping profiles and rates. Ultimately this feature is in place to ensure merchants don't end up over paying for shipping when customers order products from multiple profiles or locations, but I can understand how this may not be desired for you. Currently the only available work-around would be to use an application to set up more specific shipping rules. You can check out a few apps here.

Thank you. Are you aware of any apps that do not require you to be connected to the live carrier rates? Fulfillment emails are sent to the warehouse. They package and ship the product, then send me an invoice for the amount. Most of the apps seem to require you to use their shipping methods or at least be connected to the live rates.

Thank you.

This seems to be a common problem. Has anyone written code to fix the problem that could be added on the back end to change the shipping functionality?

Hey, @Lael_Harrelson.

Great question! Thanks for bringing it to our Community forum. I'm happy to provide some clarification regarding your shipping setting options.

Since you are hoping to have one shipping profile with the same flat fee rates, you can use the General Shipping profile. General rates provide a flat rate shipping cost regardless of what is in the cart:

You will want to ensure that all your products fall under this category, and avoid having multiple shipping profiles. When you go into your General Shipping Rates > Manage please ensure that both dropshipping locations are listed here:

You can learn more about this in our shipping strategies for dropshipping help document. Please give that a try, and let me know how it goes.

I actually did that before I posted here on the forums and they were not able to help me. I was told there was no way to have a single flat rate if products were being fulfilled by two different drop shippers.  I thought maybe you knew a special knack! 🙂

problem still exists, this is a big fail in functionality.  If you set a flat rate table, it should be just that, flat rate, it's crazy that it doubles it if the products come from two warehouses.

I agree. I'm an adult. I don't need Shopify to "protect merchants from being overcharged" on shipping. I need a platform with what should be a simple option. Shopify, please fix this!

Shopify Staff - two an a half years later and this still has not been fixed.  I just reached out to support today and they said they are "working on a solution" however there was no launch date or any additional information.  This is a major issue in today's market where no one holds inventory and works with multiple dropshippers that Shopify does not have a native based solution included in the platform.  This is extremely frustrating.  Please upvote this issue.

Hi there, @liquidsucks. Thank you for taking the time to reach out to the Shopify Community, and for following up on this thread, with your feedback.

I've gone ahead and submitted a feedback request centered around your feedback here regarding this topic. I can't promise what sort of outcome may result from passing along your feedback, but you can trust that it's been 'upvoted' and flagged for awareness with the appropriate folks. Though not a solution to your concerns, a third party application can be used to assist you with having better controls over how your shipping rules apply to your store. Consider looking into some shipping rule apps like ShipEasy to see if they'll be able to assist you with achieving this functionality.

Hi, just jumping in here as yours is the most recent comment. I don't suppose you found any kind of workaround?
I have always shipped my own stock but have a new partner now who will drop ship things for me. I need to have them as a location on Shopify so I can request fulfilment and keep track of everything, but have this seemingly old problem that if an order has products from both locations on it Shopify treats the items separately and then adds together the 2 different shipping costs, rather than adding together the total weight and then charging what I have set up for that particular weight in that particular zone.

Hi,

We seemed to have found a solution for this problem of double shipping rate. Using our ShipMagic app's Shipping Customization feature, you can actually setup shipping rates, so that your customers are always charged a fixed amount ($8.99 in your case) even when products are present in cart from multiple locations.

You can install the app from here and reach out to live chat support for more information on how to setup the app.

Automate & bulk assign products to shipping profile: Auto Shipping Profiles: Shipr
Calculate accurate shipping rates: Shipping Calculator: ShipMagic
Hide, rename, reorder payment methods at checkout: Payment Customization: PayMix

I haven't found a great solution. Since I offer free shipping or orders over $100, my solution was to only offer products from the second drop shipper that are over $100 and kick in the free shipping.

Thanks for replying.

I was actually thinking of something like this myself. Have a threshold for free delivery and see if I had any complaints/feedback if the odd orders had items from both locations but didn't meet the threshold, and deal with them as they happen.

Appreciate the reply though, Ill reply again here if I somehow find a solution or workaround.

I return from with good news (kind of) from the Shopify admin battleground.
I have a kind of workaround that might help some people.
Using Shopify flow and another app called flowmail.
You are able to create a flow - Order created > Check if: line items vendor is equal to "your supplier name" > Do This: Send transactional email (by specific email).
Have to set up a flow per Vendor.
If you would like to know the specific variables I used to create the email that then emails the supplier with only their products, qtys, and customer delivery address etc, ket me know and I will send across happily,
The Flowmail team are fantastic too, cant recommend them enough.

Edit: This is with only one fulfilment location set up, so Shopify doesn't treat it as 2 orders and only calculates one weight for shipping price calculation.
