Free products and checkout

Hi,

I am running a Shopify trial. Since we are using a trial version we don't know what happens when someone clicks the checkout button, because we then see the message that you must pick a plan first. So what I want to know is that when we offer products that don't have a price, so the price is zero, and the customer select 3 products that are free, what happens when that customer clicks the checkout button. Will they be routed to a payment provider, or is the checkout fulfilled?

That's a really great question. When your customer gets to the checkout, regardless of whether their item is free or not, they are still required to fill in their details. They will be brought to the first page of checkout where they will need to fill out their details such as their email, full name, and shipping address. They will then be brought to a second page where they can choose a shipping option and if the shipping is free, then they will be finished. If you are charging for shipping on these free items they will be brought to a payment screen where they will fill in their payment details.
