GA4 purchase event not firing due to external payment gateway (PayU) – any workaround?

Hi everyone,

I'm currently using the official Google & YouTube app to connect GA4 and Google Ads with my Shopify store.

I have a problem with the purchase event: it's triggered only when the customer returns to the "thank you" page after completing the payment. However, I'm using an external payment gateway (PayU) that's popular in Poland, and unfortunately it does not automatically redirect users back to the thank you page after a successful payment.

As a result, many of my purchases are not being tracked in GA4 or Google Ads, because customers don't always return to the store after payment.

Is there any way to trigger the purchase event based on the order status (e.g. when the order is marked as paid) rather than relying on the thank you page being loaded? Has anyone solved a similar issue?
