GMC account warning re: Shipping does not match Shopify check out. Shopify settings appear correct

Per GMC: Account warned for violation of feed specification: inaccurate shipping costs (due to inconsistent shipping costs between the feed and the landing page)

When viewing any given product in GMC, for those familiar with GMC, product ABC shows shipping costs to destination New York, NY 11203 (Shipping and tax rate calculator default, you can choose any zip code and the issue remains). In this case product ABC shows: $2.78

On our check out page shows $3.90 (Again, any product, any zip code produces a mismatch, hence the warning from GMC.)

In Shopify Settings | Shipping and Delivery | Carrier accounts and fulfilment services | Manage integrations we have a USPS account with an ID. When testing USPS rates, it shows $2.80 for USPS Media Mail Parcel.

When checking Edit USPS there is a check box option to Use retail rates instead of USPS commercial rates. Selecting or unselecting has no effect. Check out page still shows $3.90.

For what it is worth. We've been using GMC without issue for years. I've been told about a month ago, our account was upgraded at Shopify. I have no details on that, but that is the only thing that has changed, so my guess is GMC only just now got around to testing our set up (GMC can take days and weeks for some things so this would not surprise me to be one of them).

Any suggestions or even better a known solution would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Bill

You can advertise years while not following policies, and then get an account review. Getting an account warning has nothing to do regarding recent changes specifically and can be an issue you had for years.

Option 1: You can add a modifier in Google Merchant Center to make sure you match or are equal to the shipping price in Shopify. Make sure to disable automatic shipping price submission and switch to manual.

Option 2: Get in touch with Shopify support team.

Hi Emmanuel - thanks for getting back to me. Yes, GMC can throw you a warning out of nowhere. Sometimes right when it processes the initial feed and sometimes months later. I've never had one years later, but believe you.

The first rule of tech support is, "what changed/what is different" hence my pointing out the only change was an upgrade at Shopify. Having run a web business since July 1998 and have been using Google Ads when it first came out as AdWords (15 years ago?) you learn changes and new issues go hand-in-hand almost always. Always? No. Almost always? Yes. This is one of the consciences that "suggests" the upgrade may be involved. (Unfortunately, my client isn't tech savvy and only knows the account was upgraded. I don't have information from what to what.)

RE: a modifier in GMC, are your referring to the content API for shipping? From what I've researched, that's beyond my pay grade. I know enough about coding to break stuff, not fix it. If you are suggesting a feed rule, can you explain it to me like I was five and bullet point the needed attributes (e.g., add shipping_label, set rule, yada, yada, yada. etc.)

Shopify support is a dead end. Per my last call, the rep said, it's the feed app. It's not, the Shopify check out page shows the incorrect shipping price. Then he said, you have to talk to Google. That's not where the problem lies. The Shopify check out page shows the incorrect shipping price. Then he said its USPS. That's the only possibility that might be the cause, since Shopify is getting that shipping price from somewhere.

thanks,

Bill

As of April 2020 Google is reviewing every single account and checking based on 3rd party resources. If the trust factor is too low, you get suspended.

With GMC suspensions, you can't apply tech support logic. Tech support is related to actual errors. While suspensions are related to policies, which are not checked all the time by Google but at random.

Also new policies such as the April 2020 can have an effect to existing accounts for several years. There are millions of merchants, all of them are checked and rechecked all the time.

I actually provide a full account checkup if you are interested: https://feedarmy.com/google-merchant-center-suspended-get-back-on-google-shopping/
