Help with Weight-Based USPS Shipping Calculation

Hi guys! I've setup a Shopify Basic Plan with one fulfillment location, and I'm looking for help in getting weight-based shipping to calculate correctly. I've tried a few things this week and failed.

Here’s the setup:

  • Carrier Selection: I prefers USPS (or UPS, whichever offers the best rates).

  • Weight-Based Calculation: I have various items (e.g., 1 wallpaper roll, 1 yard of fabric, 1 notebook,). Each of  these come with different weights (e.g., 1 wallpaper roll is 15 pounds, but 1 notebook is .5 lbs). I’d like the system to calculate shipping automatically based on the total weight and *quantity* at checkout.

Despite setting up real-time carrier rates, the rates aren’t calculating as expected.  Any advice on configuring this or specific app recommendations?

If all else fails, is there an expert that I could hire to assist with this?

Hi @Sid2,
Happy to help you set USPS rates based on weight with our app. Free initial setup service is included. But for this you need to enable a CCS feature by Shopify and have a Stamps.com account.

hi@Sid2

based on your products I recommend using both UPS and USPS. USPS would offer you the best rates for light-weight products (notebooks) whereas, UPS (ground services) would offer comparatively better rates for products above 10lbs (wallpaper rolls).

Our Multi-Carrier Shipping Label application for Shopify would best suit your requirements. It supports both UPS and USPS as shipping carriers. You can even utilize USPS using a Stamps.com or EasyPost account in case you do not have a USPS shipper account.

Regarding the weight and quantity setup, the application offers easy-to-set rules based on product weight and quantity where you can specify whether you want UPS for, say weight limit of more than 10 lbs, and USPS for weight limit of less than 10 lbs.

You would require Shopify carrier-calculated shipping enabled to display shipping rates on checkout. Additionally, you will get the option to create shipping labels for both UPS and USPS from within your Shopify dashboard, and a dedicated order tracking dashboard for easy live tracking of your shipments. If you feel this is something that can work for your store feel free to try it out.
