Accepting credit cards, warehouses, and shipping and fulfilling orders
I’m a flower shop and for prom and homecomings we allow our customers to order their boutonnières and corsages online. We don’t track the inventory because we make whatever number of orders we receive. However Shopify is not allowing anymore orders because there are orders that are unfulfilled. I don’t fulfill them until the day of pickup. How can I override this so I can have an unlimited amount of online orders, even when they are unfulfilled.
Hi @Wildflowers6200, this is a great question and I can definitely understand how important it is to find a solution.
From the sounds of it you are being restricted from using the Shopify Payments gateway to process additional orders for your store due to a large amount of unfulfilled orders. While definitely not ideal in your situation, this is a standard practice by many online payment gateways to reduce the risk of fraudulent behavior.
I have a few options for you to consider, that may help in this situation:
Payment Capture - Payment authorization · Shopify Help Center
Payment capture allows for the checkout to authorize the charge but it doesn't finish collecting the payment until reviewed and authorized by the business. There is generally a window of time for eligible payment capture (varies based on individual gateway) and for Shopify Payments it is 7 days.
Product Interest Form
You could also change your option to purchase the corsage or flower arrangement into an interest form which allows you to collect an order that you can invoice for payment at a later date. If you are a using a free theme from Shopify then our in house theme support may be able to assist with this.
Alternate Payment Gateway
The restriction of the amount of orders you have is specific to the payment gateway you are using (in this case Shopify Payments) but there are many alternative payment gateways that could be less restrictive and may be a better fit for your business. You can review eligible payment gateways based on your country here: US Payment Gateways.
Payout Reserve
Lastly, an option that you may be able to negotiate with the risk analyst working on your case is the potential for a payout reserve. A payout reserve means that a portion of your processed payments is held back anywhere from 30-90 days to help protect the payment gateway and your business from potential chargebacks or other fraudulent business practices. The reserve would give you a chance to build trust with our banking partners and allow you to continue using Shopify Payments.
I hope these resources help!
