How can I add a working payment method to my online store in the UK?

I am wondering how to add a payment method onto my shopify store, customers get to the checkout and then an error occurs I am wondering how to add a payment method which works I am based in the UK. Thanks

That is a great question! You can add a payment gateway by navigating to Settings > Payments.  

Just to gather some additional context, do you happen to know what specific error message your customers received? You can check the abandoned orders to see more information on the error message that may have been given.
