How can I automate NZ shipping rate selection on checkout?

Hi everyone,

Wondering if someone can help me with the NZ shipping options. At the moment Shopify has NZ set as 1 zone so there isn't an automated way we can created different rates for different zones/areas within New Zealand however the rates vary so much whether you are in a metro vs rural, north island vs south island.

At the moment it doesn't automate a shipping rate depending on the customers entered shipping address, the customer goes in to select a rate themselves so it is dependent on the customers honesty in ways. 

Is there any app or ways where this can be automated or plugged into the shopify check-out. We have some customers selecting the cheaper rate (eg for Auckland) where as they live in Christchurch which is a more expensive rate. 

Any help appreciated.

Hi @bshum1,

May I know which carrier you are using? However, you can take a look at Multi Carrier Shipping Label App. This app allows you to create multiple zones based on states, pin codes, and countries. And based on the carrier/s configured the shipping rates will be displayed in the checkout.

Hi Bonnie,

Unless you are using an app, you cannot currently set up shipping rates to hide or show based on rural/non-rural addresses in Shopify, so when a rural customer is checking out on your Shopify store, they will see both the urban and rural rate, and unfortunately a lot of the time they will pick the urban rate which can create a lot of hassle or lost margin.
