How can I create a pick-up option for select customers on my online store?

We're a new online business and would like to explore the option for family and friends to pick up their products instead of having it shipped. However we don't want this option publicly available to all customers.

Is there a way to set a rule in shopify that links pick up to a discount code? Or is there a way to create a rule for pick that needs to be approved first?

You could potentially use Shopify's new Payment Customization API to hide the "Local pickup" option for everyone except a few selected customers.

If you're on Shopify Plus, you can build your own custom app for this.

If not, then I recommend trying the "payment customization" apps on the Shopify App Store, there are a few that might be able to meet your needs.
