If you ship through a supported carrier, Shopify Order Status Page has some great info for your customers. The order status updates in real-time and the shipment location is shown on a map. Please refer to this Shopify Doc.

If you want to track orders using Shopify tracking you can look into this guide: https://help.shopify.com/en/manual/orders/status-tracking

But since you are asking for a step-by-step tracking of orders, I would suggest you take a look into Multi Carrier Shipping Label app. The app allows you to track your orders at every step & view the status of all the orders from the Tracking Dashboard within the Shopify store.
