How can I limit order quantity to available inventory?

I am listing items with only one of each in inventory. I set 1 available under my inventory however when I went to test it on my website I noticed someone could add as many items as they want (2+) into their cart and in checkout even though there is only 1 available. How is this possible and how do I fix it?

In the Shopify product settings, please make sure you have activated the 'Track Quantity' option and deactivated the 'Continue selling when out of stock' option. This should ideally prevent customers from purchasing the product when it's out of stock.
