How can I offer free shipping on the first item in my store?

I want to offer free shipping on my customers first items. What I would like to have is standard shipping costs added for more then 2 plus items. How can I set this up in my store?

It is not possible to have quantity-based rules for Shopify Flatrate shipping.

An alternative approach is to use weight-based shipping rules. Ensure that you configure the product weight for each item.

For example, let's say you configure the product weight as 1 kg for all products.

Then, configure the rules as follows:
- 0-2 KG: Free Shipping
- 2-3 KG: $5
- And so on

This can easily be done using apps, such as, JsRates, if you store has a third-party carrier calculated rates activated. This might become a bit trickier if the customer placed several separate orders - you will offer free shipping for items.
