Accepting credit cards, warehouses, and shipping and fulfilling orders
Hello,
I was testing the shipping options to see how they work. I selected a random package and now I cannot delete it. How can I delete it or how do I make sure it does not cause me trouble in the future?

Hey @Tobi02,
Welcome to the Shopify Community! Great question, usually there should be an edit option next to each of the packages. Let's see what we can do here.
If the grey text says, "the package is used to calculate shipping rates at checkout" then this package has been made your default package size. To remove the package, you'll first need to assign one of your other packages as the default package size as Shopify requires you to have at least 1 default package size assigned to your account. You can do this by clicking Edit next to the package that should be the default size, and then selecting Use this package to calculate rates at checkout. After this, click Save.
Once you have changed the default package, try refreshing the page. Does an edit option now appear next to the box you'd like to remove? If so, you should be able to click Edit > Delete package. If not, please send a screenshot of what you are seeing and we can go from there.
Below is a screenshot of the Edit pop-up box:
Let me know how this goes, and if you have any questions!

Hi Moira,
I have more than one size package to be used for different products on the store. I don't want to only use just one saved default package that I set up. How do I delete the default without adding a new package and just let Shopify calculate it automatically at checkout?
Hey @Cognizant, where are you based? If you use Shopify Shipping, then you can set a different default package when purchasing shipping labels.
Entering dimensions and weights for the types of packages that you typically send helps your calculated shipping rates to be more accurate. You can add as many additional packages as you want. The default package is used to calculate shipping rates at checkout, but any saved package can be used when purchasing a label through Shopify Shipping.
Otherwise, If you have carrier-calculated shipping rates, then the default package's details are used by the carrier to determine the shipping rate to charge your customers during checkout. If you have weight-based rates, then the weight of the default package is added to the weight of the products being shipped to determine which weight-based rate to charge.

THERE IS NO EDIT BOX! PLEASE ADVISE HOW TO DELETE A SAVED PACKAGE DEFAULT AS I AM UNABLE TO PRINT SHIPPING LABEL WITH THIS ERROR!
Once a package has been created on your Shopify store, Shopify then requires you to have at least 1 default package size assigned to your account. As of right now, there is no way to revert this. However, you can delete an existing package if you have at least 1 other saved package.
To do this, go to Settings > Shipping & Delivery and then scroll down to the packages section. Here, you'll find all your saved packages. As long as there are at least 2 packages with the checkbox ticked next to "Use this package to calculate rates at checkout", a red delete button will appear that you can use to delete the package.

The problem with the "default box" is there is no weight limit. If I could add a weight limit to the boxes, then it could change the box size depending on the weight of the order. Right now, if a customer's order is more than the box holds, I'm losing money on under-charged shipping rates.
The default package size in Shopify is going to be used in all calculated shipping rates at checkout for your customers. In the case you have a variety of packaging sizing, I recommend using a third-party app to accomplish this. An app called Boxify will allow you to show rates that match how an order is actually shipped, whatever is in the cart, whatever the size of the box or boxes required. They also offer a 15-day free trial to see if it's a good fit for your store!

Is this not a bug that needs to be removed, might expect a system this expensive to be flexible enough to turn something on and then off not on and then work around for the rest of you contract
I completely agree. I was just playing around with the options, and now everything is messed up and shipping isn't working. I'm stuck without being able to delete it, waiting for support to give me a resolution.
