Hi, @Crimsonlotus.

Welcome to the Shopify community and thanks for reaching out!

I understand you're trying to replace your existing payment card on file with a new one. However, you're receiving an error message that the system can't verify your card. Thank you for checking with your bank to ensure there are no issues. Rest assured, I'll be able to share a bit more insight on why this error message is present.

First, I'd like to share a list of the payment methods we accept:

  • Must be co-branded with VISA, Mastercard, or AMEX and able to process recurring, international transactions in USD.
  • Hybrid debit/credit cards for these brands are supported.
  • Prepaid cards are not supported, but may sometimes work.
  • Virtual credit cards are not accepted.

Here are a few possibilities as to why a payment method may not be accepted:

  • Your payment method might be rejected if you aren't using a valid credit card from Mastercard, Visa, or American Express to pay your Shopify bills.

  • If you use a debit card, then it must be co‑branded with Mastercard, Visa, or American Express. You can't use debit cards that are not co‑branded.

  • Your credit card needs to allow for recurring payments in USD.

  • Your credit card needs to have international capabilities.

For more information on what payment methods we accept, take a look at our Billing FAQ resource.

If you've confirmed that it is an accepted payment method and have retried entering the card details, I recommend reaching out to our support team. Our support team will be able to authenticate your account and have a closer look to see if there are any other issues present. You can create a support request through our Help Center and contact our support via chat, email or by scheduling a callback request.

What kind of online business have you started? Have you already had a chance to create a brand and marketing strategy for your business? If not, I'll share some helpful resources to get you started.

this canned answer of "you must use approved card blah blah blah" is not only frustrating, it just doesn't work! i feel for the people like me who are using the correct card, putting in the correct number only to have blasted shopify say there is an error!!! i HATE this shopify app!! never wanted it, don't like it. wished companies wouldn't use it as it always says there is an error when i know there isn't. so, shopify, come up with a better answer than "oh it is you-- user error--- it isn't us." IT IS YOU! SHOPIFY IS THE PROBLEM!
