How can we offer manual payment methods to global customers?

It seems like Manual payment methods are not available on checkout unless the store's primary currency is used.

How can we make our manual payment methods available to global customers?

This is a good question - I also have the same issue since Shopify Payments was enabled.

And here is the reply from Shopify support:

Manual Payment methods will only appear at checkout for customers in the Merchant's Primary Market at this time.

Hi @joel-vl

The manual payment options available are Cash On Delivery, pick-up in-store, bank deposit, and money order. So they all broadly require that customers either be physically present in your primary market or pay into the bank account associated with your primary market. For this reason, options will only be listed as available to customers within your primary market.

I will be sure to pass on your feedback internally for our developers to record, though I cannot guarantee if and when it will be implemented.

In the meantime, you could always provide local payment options for countries in your market that have them!

How is business going otherwise? Are you happy with your sales?

Hi @Andrew

I appreciate your reply. The reason why we need the manual payment option globally is that the community of our client wants to pay with a specific cryptocurrency. How can we allow that payment method?

Thanks,
Joël

I understand. To accept cryptocurrency you will need to enable additional payments. After you enable a payment method that supports cryptocurrencies, you can accept any cryptocurrency that is supported by their service.

The supported cryptocurrency platforms only support well-known cryptocurrencies. We would like to accept a relatively small cryptocurrency that is widely used in our client's local community.

I see. This is not something that the Shopify platform can currently support, so I will be sure to pass this feedback on internally in the hopes that it may one day be something our developers can help resolve.

In the meantime, I would recommend that you consult with Shopify Experts who are a team of third-party developers who can make custom changes to your store on a contracted basis. They may be able to develop a custom solution for accepting specific cryptocurrencies or may have access to an already existing integration that I'm unaware of.

Add my feedback too and pass my vote too for this feature request (does it actually do anything? or is it all sent into an inbox that is called "trash"?)

Yet again another feature limitation that makes NO SENSE. Why limit manual payment to only the primary market... Furthermore this limitation is NOT disclosed ANYWHERE, not in the shopify documentation, not near or around the feature itself... the only way to know this is not supported is to actually try it out. This is shameful.

International bank transfers are absolutely ROUTINE tasks in some industries it is the standard way of doing things... there is absolutely no reason why manual bank transfer should be limited to the primary country, all (or the vast majority) of banks in the world use a standardized system for transferring money between banks across the globe.

This is again a really troubling limitation of Shopify Markets... in our case we had (wrongly) assumed the manual payment feature would work for all our markets (no reason why it shouldnt) and as we were about to launch doing final testing we realized that the manual payment options were only available for our primary country!?! its soooo unexpected and it is has critical implications for our project. We might have to completely abandon our shopify store right when we were about to launch it and have to redo everything on another ecommerce platform that truly supports international ecommerce. Shopify Market is severely lacking, it is half-assed at best, clearly an after-thought that was patched in.

Sidenote, another sign that manual payment are implemented very very poorly is that it is IMPOSSIBLE to translate the manual payment's instructions / details... absolutely no way to translate that, either with shopify natively, or the shopify translate and adapt app or any third party language app, nothing can translate manual payment methods. Baffling, but not surprising because its shopify.

I'm having the same issue with one of my stores. Unbelievable that such a basic feature is still missing in Shopify in 2023. Especially since Shopify wants their merchants to use Shopify Markets so badly.

I have still not found any workaround or ETA for the feature, Shopify support just keeps saying that they will pass the request onto their dev team.

Bump. Also interested in this to receive E-Transfers in Canada.
