How to best approach shipping dimensions in eCommerce?

Greetings All, 

We are new to eCom and have just re-platformed onto Shopify.  Since we have no experience in this, we are feeling a bit overwhelmed like a fish out of water.  We sell many different size items and are concerned about the best way to approach shipping.  Seeing we can only add weight and not dimensions, we are trying to efficiently set up best practices for this process.  Any feedback would be greatly appreciated!

Hi @WheelsUp22 

 

Since you have products of different sizes, it is ideal to put both weight & dimension to get accurate shipping costs. Without that you might be undercharging/overcharging for some orders. You will be responsible for paying the additional shipping cost, and if you overcharge for shipping, most customers will abandon their cart.

 

Since within Shopify this option is not yet available, are you looking for for any shipping solution or app like Shopify Multi Carrier Shipping Label App as an workaround?

Thank you for your response. We currently use Shopify Shipping and also
Shipstation. Being new to eCom, it seems odd that Shopify wouldn't
integrate a shipping dimensions field as this seems like an important
aspect of efficiently running an online store. Is it fair to say that
our only options are:

1) Use flat rate shipping
2) Use 3rd party app

We are trying to integrate as efficiently as possible which has been a
challenge since we use Lightspeed for POS.
