Accepting credit cards, warehouses, and shipping and fulfilling orders
Hello,
As the title says.
We're trying to figure out how to create a shipping profile, where certain products can be added to based on parcel size, parcel weight, and parcel destination.
For example a 3kg parcel with the dimensions of 20cm by 20cm by 20cm going to France would have a different postage cost compared to a 3kg parcel with the dimension of 140cm by 20cm by 15cm going to France.
Is this possible to configure within Shopify itself or would we need to get a third party app to complete this?
Any help would be great.
Many thanks
hi @metropolitan as per my assumption, you are doing this to accommodate the volumetric weight. Shipping carriers do this automatically when they get the weight and dimensions of the product/box. I would recommend you integrate directly with a shipping carrier that calculates the postage and displays it on the checkout. Additionally, this would work from a single shipping profile. It would be more efficient than creating multiple profiles only for accommodating parcel weight and size.
Plus, the shipping cost will automatically vary from one location to another. So all the factors will be in place - destination, weight and size,
Do let me know if something like this works for you.
Hi @metropolitan - This is where the concept of 'dimensional weight' comes into the picture. Carriers charge on dimensional weight if that's more than the dead weight of the product. Which carriers are you using to ship?
EVRI and Royal Mail/Parcel Force (for uk to international). Royal Mail especially changes their price based on size and weight. EVRI tends to be more fixed prices but we have some oversized parcels that are light in weight, so going only by weight doesn't really work for us. That's why we wondered if Shopify can achieve this or not. Thanks.
Hi @metropolitan - My recommendation here will be to create a custom rate table for shipping rates. You will be able to create this easily for all carriers. You can take a free trial of ShipperHQ and create a custom table which includes package dimensions. You will find useful help documents to enable the configure. Let me know if you need help.
You could try an app like Starshipit? You'd use the checkout rates feature and packaging settings. You can set up shipping rules based on parcel size, weight, and destination to display accurate rates at checkout. While Shopify has some native capabilities, using a third party app would provide a more comprehensive and flexible solution for your specific requirements.
@metropolitan happy to help you solve dimensional shipping rates with our app's Smart Packaging feature and provide you with a free initial setup. No need to configure and keep multiple shipping profiles that will be tough to manage and update.
