Accepting credit cards, warehouses, and shipping and fulfilling orders
Dear community,
With a couple of days before going live with my website I had an unpleasant surprise when testing check out and payments.
The context is: our shop is based in Romania and we want to sell worldwide. We installed an app that would do the x-chage rate conversion of the prices in different currencies: RON, USD, GBP etc to be closer to customers.
Turns out the customer can see the price in RON for instance, but at the last step of check out the price appears in EUR. This is because the shop currency is EUR and Shopify payments is not active for Romania. Is it basically active only for 19 countries (see here which ones )
This means: the customer will not pay the RON amount which he/she agrees on my website but the equivalent of EUR at the x-change rate of the bank (plus possible additional fees). This to me is severe problem because:
1. I cannot guarantee prices in other currencies than EUR
2. Customer is not informed that the cash out from bank might be different than what he/she agreed on the website
3. I cannot come close to my clients in other countries except EUR ones, because prices are in EUR
Please tell me if you faced this issue and what did you do?
@Shopify please give us a solution here as we are supposed to sell worldwide!
Thanks,
Cristiana
Hi CristianaM,
I stumbled upon your question looking for another issue.
You should be able to fix this the following way.
On your shopify back-end, go to settings>markets.
Next to your primary market (romania), click manage.
Then under section Products and Pricing you should be able to add RON.
Shopify seems to have auto-enabled local currency since last week for all customers (at least for my clients). So Shopify does the exchange check only mathematically and not hard for check out.
No idea why this is. But I hope this helps you out.
Also make sure you uncheck this box under your International market.
Especially if you will use a manual exchange rate to have steady prices.
Hi PeteShape,
Thanks a lot for your answer!
The website has the following set-up:
Primary market: eur
Subfolder: Romania (eur)
I tried to change the currency for Romania as you advised, but it's not available because it requires Shopify Payments, which is not supported for Romania 😞
Any other idea?
Thanks a lot,
Cristiana
