How to select Thermal label format? Please help :)

Hi everyone!

I'm currently at a lost. I am trying to use my new label printer and it works and prints well..

When I hit download or print on a purchased label, it downloads the Letter (8.5 × 11 inch) version.

I NEED the Thermal (4 × 6 inch / 100 × 150 mm / A6) Version...

There is no selection, settings or options anywhere for me to select the 4 x 6 download/print version...

Where can I find it?HELPME.JPG

Hi @CitiesAway!

This is Ren from the Shopify support team, would love to lend a hand here.

In order to change the shipping label size, you must first click to fulfill an order and create a label. This will take you to the next screen where you can verify all of the appropriate shipping details. Once that's done, you click to purchase your label and the following page will be the Print shipping label page. Here, to the right, you will see a box titled Print options and a blue change format link:

Selecting this will bring you to a pop-up screen that will allow you to select between Letter or Thermal sized labels:

Make the appropriate selection and hit save! In the event that you selected and printed the wrong size label, you can follow the directions here to void and repurchase using the correct size. That's it!

How are you finding Shopify's shipping components overall? Do you feel like it's working for you or are you needing more flexibility with the products you're shipping? Happy to chat further!

So I select the thermal label, even do a test print, but the second I purchase and actually hit the print label it's ALWAYS the envelope format.  I can't fix this.  I need some help on fixing this as it's going to kill our label process unless we figure it out.

Thanks!

I should note that I looked at the selection and it says thermal label but still prints the envelope label.

Hi @mparry

Sorry you're still running into trouble with this one and thanks for confirming that your settings are definitely set to the Thermal label sizing.

This indicates to me that the issue may be in your printer's settings directly. Here's how to configure your printer settings on a PC and here is how to configure them using a mac.

Let me know if that does the trick!

Shopify should really also add this under the shipping area in admin. I spent over a hour trying to figure this out just for it to only be in the area when you buying the label. Place the select shipping label in the admin shipping area too.

Hello @PorchiaNicole

Thank you for your feedback! I agree that more visibility of this option would be a great idea. We are constantly striving to improve the platform and love hearing thoughts from our merchants, especially when it comes to the interface and user functionality. I'll be sure to submit this feedback to our teams on your behalf.

Thank you!

Hello @Rena_serenaa

Thanks for reaching out for a hand. Just to clarify, have you attempted the steps outlined below?

In order to change the shipping label size, you must first click to fulfill an order and create a label. This will take you to the next screen where you can verify all of the appropriate shipping details. Once that's done, you click to purchase your label and the following page will be the Print shipping label page. Here, to the right, you will see a box titled Print options and a blue change format link:

Selecting this will bring you to a pop-up screen that will allow you to select between Letter or Thermal sized labels:

Make the appropriate selection and hit save! In the event that you selected and printed the wrong size label, you can follow the directions here to void and repurchase using the correct size.

If you've completed these steps but you're still running into a problem, I recommend reviewing your actually printer settings to make sure it is set to your thermal printer prior to proceeding.

What permission do I need to get the staff?

For us at the HQ we could see the option, but for the warehouse with limited access, they could not.

Please help.

Hi there, great question!

For this kind of access, an account will likely need full permissions.

When you assign full permissions to a staff member, they can access all of the functions that are available in your Shopify admin, with the exception of those functions that require store owner access.

Full permissions include all of the following permissions that are available for your store:

  • General - Home, Orders, Draft orders, Products, Gift cards, Customers, Reports, Dashboards, Marketing, Discounts, Apps, Settings
  • Online store - Themes, Blog posts and pages, Navigation, Domains
  • Locations - Manage locations
  • App and channel access - Access to all apps is given by default

Is this a setting that needs to be changed frequently? If not, it will always remain on the last option selected rather than defaulting to one or the other.

Hope that helps!

Hi @floatingchair

Thanks for your message. As the account owner, you should definitely be able to access the formatting for your label settings. Here's how to get there:

Select "Create Shipping Label":

Next, you'll purchase your label:

And here is where you can access the link to change your label format:

Selecting "change format" will bring up a screen like this and allow you to make changes or run a test print:

When you get to this stage, can you show me a screenshot of what you're seeing instead? Looking forward to assisting you further with this.

Hi Ren7,

The problem I faced last month was that my warehouse team could not click the 'Change format' button in your last 2 screenshots before printing the label, so they could only print the default format. And that was the problem only at warehouse because those with more Settings permissions could change format. So we had to give the Settings to the warehouse guy to change the label format. As a side effect, the guy can also change the settings, which is not preferred. I already feedback to Shopify support last month, hope that there will be a fix to the permission soon, so people who can access only Orders can change the label directly.

none of these "solutions work"  there is no option to change the label under shipping or under creating a shipping label.  I'm the owner of the store. I have full rights how to a have Shopify create a 4x6 label correctly?   every screen shot you could ask for in regards to permissions and labels.  how do you change the label size to 4x6?

Hi @Kurtaggie

The shipping label format can only be changed once the label is purchased. After buying the label and before printing, you should be given the option to change the format as per my screenshots above. The key is to purchase the label first.

Hello @harperthelbl and @janexjeong

Just to make sure, did you purchase the label first? You will not be presented with the option to change the format until the label has been purchased. Let me know how that goes! If the problem persists, please follow up with screenshots to help me better determine how to help!
