Accepting credit cards, warehouses, and shipping and fulfilling orders
Hi,
I've been struggling to set up out website to allow some (3) of our products to be for local pick up only, whilst the rest can be shipped or picked up.
The solution I used was to set up a new location and set that as 'local pick up only'.
The issue we are having though, is when someone purchases one of these items along with something else than can be shipped the cart does not allow them to proceed with either option - see attached photo. One item is set to ship/local pick and the other is in the new location and is for local pick up only.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
Best
Bob

Hi, @edwardandirwyn.
Great question! This is definitely a common issue, so you are not alone.
The issue is, when an item is only available for pick up, the other item in the order must also be available for pickup at the same location. If you have one location for pickup only, the products are not compatible as they are viewed by the system as available at separate locations. You also run into the issue that one is available to ship, while the other is not, thus you have no compatible shipping options.
The best solution for this would be to delete this new location you created, and restock your products at the same location as the rest of your inventory. Then, you will change your pick up location back to this location.
Next, you will create a new shipping profile for all of your local pick up products. However, the difference is, you will not create any shipping rates in this profile. What this will do, is trigger the system to provide a pick up option only, as there are no shipping rates. Because these products are also stocked at the same location as your ship-able products, the customers will be able to check out with a pick up option. Keep in mind, however, that they will not be able to select shipping. Pick up will be the only option.
If you would like the customer to be able to pick up on product, and ship the other, you will need to use an app. The app I always recommend, as it's the most robust option, is Advanced Shipping Rules. This all allows you to create unlimited filters and rules for your products and locations for any shipping requirement.
In the meantime, I would love to learn more about your business! Do you have a storefront? Or are these products available to pick up at your home?

Hi Skye,
Thanks for your extensive reply.
I think this option would be a good solution but before I give it a go I just wanted to check how the cart would behave with this new shipping profile? Would the option clearly show a pick up option?
Also, just to be sure you mentioned
"Keep in mind, however, that they will not be able to select shipping. Pick up will be the only option."
This would only the case if they were to choose one of the items that I'm trying to set as pick up only.
We do indeed have a storefront. Currently most of our business is through our B&M shop but hoping to increase our online presence.
Thanks again,
Bob

I've just tried your method however when I tried a demo I couldn't get the cart to show a local pick up option. I suspect I've not quite followed your instructions - I've attached a screenshot from the settings page.
Many thanks
Bob
Hi Skye,
I think I have it working now 🤞🏼.
Will report back if I'm having any further troubles.
Thanks so much!
Bob
Hi, @edwardandirwyn.
Glad you got it working! I apologize if parts of my response were a bit confusing. That is amazing you have a storefront but are working towards growing your online presence. To help you with that, we have a great blog you might find useful on how to grow your social media presence.
Additionally, if you have not already, I would look into influencer marketing! It's a cost effective targeted way of reaching an authentic audience that falls in your niche! We have a great blog post you can check out here all about it.
If you need anything else, let me know!
Thanks Skye, Will do!
Hi Skye,
This is helpful, but as I tried - it still show shipping as an option during checkout. The order cannot proceed with shipping, so in essence it is defaulting to pickup only, but confusing to the customer and checkout process.
Is there a way to change this?
Hi, @YLC_Amber.
Thanks for joining the thread!
I apologize but I am not sure what you mean. You mention it is still showing shipping as an option during checkout, but that the order cannot proceed with shipping. Can you elaborate on this?
Thanks!
Hi, @YLC_Amber.
Thanks for providing that additional context. If it still shows shipping as an option that means somewhere you have added a shipping rate for those products.
To correct this, head to Settings > Shipping & Delivery > Manage Rates and delete an shipping rate in the profile that holds the product in question. Once those rates are deleted it will no longer provide a shipping option to your customers.
Hi,
So I'm having the same problem with the "Ship" option still being available, even though no rates are added and the product is added in a "Pick Up Only" profile. I want "Pick Up" to be the only option.
Here is the setup below. Any ideas appreciated.
This solution doesn't work because:
1. It takes away the choice for customers for have a delivery for the products.
2. The Advanced Shipping Rules app doesn't have a pick-up option.
Hi, @slav1
Thanks for joining the conversation!
This thread is to create a way for some products to only display local pick up, not delivery. If you'd like to have your products set up for delivery you simply need to enable local pickup and delivery along with shipping rates.
Oh, I see. The problem I have with what you said is that when I set one product as pick up only and enable shipping for the second one, when someone buys both, the first one (which was supposed to be picked up only), gets an option to be shipped as well on checkout. The problem is that this product should be picked only from the store because either it's too big to be shipped or it's dangerous to be shipped.
Hi, I created a Local Pickup only shipping category, there are no shipping rates defined, but when I go to checkout the product it still has 2 options one to ship one for local pickup even though it won't let you complete the checkout with shipping selected. I am trying to get it to where there is no shipping option appearing on the products in this shipping profile. Any and all help is appreciated.
Is there an update on Rphawthorne's problem? Following the instructions above, I am seeing the exact same issue ("Ship" option is still showing, even though the product is in its own "Pickup Only" profile with no shipping rates set).
I am also looking for an update to this issue of Ship and Pick Up still showing when there are no rates.
