Accepting credit cards, warehouses, and shipping and fulfilling orders
Does anyone know how to set up a shipping rule that will completely remove the need to ship? I've got multiple wholesale customers who live in my city, and they want to purchase online and pick up directly from my warehouse. While I can set up a discount code for wholesale pricing, I can't figure out how to remove the need for shipping. Help, please!
Hey!
Aria here, one of the Social Care gurus at Shopify.
There are a couple of ways to set things up when items don't require shipping. It really depends on the needs of your business.
If you sell a product that doesn't require shipping at all, you can just mark this product to say no shipping is required. To do this, go to the product page in your admin and scroll to the shipping section:
When you uncheck that box and save it, the customer will not be prompted to enter a shipping address and pay for shipping. I know it looks confusing because it is suggesting the product is not a physical product but really, it works for any product that doesn't need to be shipped.
If you're selling wholesale, you most likely have a lot of products, in which case you can do the same thing but using your Bulk Editor to edit a lot of products at once:
If you want to have the option to ship products as well as allow local pickup, you can set up a price-based free shipping rate and clearly label it LOCAL PICKUP ONLY:
If you want a smoother process, the Store Pickup Click and Collect app could work for you.
From what you said, it sounds like the first option is the one you're looking for but if I misunderstood, please let me know how you need it to work and I will take another look.
How is your wholesale business working out otherwise? Do you have any other pain points?

Hi, I have some products that I want to have no shipping options for also.
I followed the above and unchecked the 'requires shipping' on these products.
However I still have some items in the General shipping profile.
Can you help?
Hey, Katie!
Can you please tell me a bit more about what is happening. Can you just delete the products from the General profile if you no longer want them there?
If you can provide some screenshots and explain how you need it to work, I can help.

I'm glad to hear you got it sorted out. Let me know if you need anything else.

Aria,
Thanks for the idea. However, the issue with this workaround is that the customer still has to initially choose "Ship it" before the next screen where they would choose the free Local Pickup option. In the eyes of the customer, that is confusing. If it was me, I would never get to that second screen. I would just assume shipping is the only option. If I don't want to pay for shipping (not knowing there is a free pick up option), I may just not order. It would be nice to just be able to disable shipping on select products without it also removing Local Pickup.
Hey, @DarrenC!
I get what you're saying.
What if you just put a clear note on the product description:
This product can be picked up locally if you live in (name of town). Please select the free local pickup option on the shipping page.
As a consumer who shops online frequently, it's logical to me most websites will ship nationally and even internationally but if I know the location of the business is in the same city as me, chances are, I can pick it up rather than have it shipped. I think most people will realise this. It's all about having clear, concise communication on your website.

Hi Aria,
I hate to open up more dialogue on this thread - but I have a similar issue.
My store sells tropical plants and garden/plant supplies. I am trying to find a way to only offer Local Delivery for the plants but keep the shipping option available for our plant care supplies.
If we mark the plants as non physical products and add a description to each plant product about local delivery only - how would we get their delivery address in order to fulfill that delivery request? Is there a way to confirm it’s not a physical product but also give them a delivery prompt at checkout?
Thank you,
Hey, @wheatandthistle!
This is a pretty old thread. Things are way more simple than they used to be.
You can set up Shipping Profiles. You can ensure the plants are available in your Local Delivery profile. You can set up a separate profile to put the rest of your products in and make sure you exclude the plants from that one. This way, when someone adds a plant to the cart, it won't be possible for them to get shipping rates for the plant but they can get the Local Delivery option.
Communication is key as well! You can put clear guidelines on your product pages to manage your customer's expectations.

Hello,
I have a physical product that we are selling for a fundraiser, therefore, we do not want to offer shipping - pick up locally only.
How do I single this one product out to NOT SHIP?
Thanks
