Accepting credit cards, warehouses, and shipping and fulfilling orders
Hi,
I am setting up my shopify account. I am confused on the shipping. What do I need for the shipment
Hello @kikayarts ,
It's quite common for merchants to grapple with this issue.
I recommend developing a shipping strategy for your business. Begin by identifying the top shipping companies in your area, discussing their coverage, and assessing their shipping costs.
Don't worry; many major shipping companies offer discounts to small and medium-sized merchants.
Consider checking out Shopify Shipping. In some countries, Shopify provides discounted rates that don't require you to have an account with the carrier.
Additionally, you'll need to decide on your shipping approach for customers. You can choose to offer free shipping, flat-rate shipping, or carrier-calculated rates at checkout. Carrier-calculated rates at checkout are especially useful when you have slim profit margins and need precise shipping cost calculations.
Depending on your chosen strategy, you may need to integrate an app with your selected carrier.
If you're in the early stages of your business, I suggest configuring flat-rate or free shipping at checkout and manually generating shipping labels through the carrier's website when orders come in.
As your order volume increases, you can explore more automated options.
Thank you for the response...
Hi, @kikayarts!
Welcome to Shopify Community and thank you so much for sharing your question.
Also a very special thank you to fellow user, @Mirdas, for sharing their detailed reply. Their comments and feedback will be invaluable to you as you get started on Shopify and continue to grow your business for the long-term.
The most important comment they mentioned is you do in fact need a shipping strategy to cover your business costs and allow room for some profit. If and when you decide on your rates, you will still need to set them up within Shopify.
For that you will need to learn more about Shipping Profiles within Shopify and assign products to have rates depending on region. This is also the time to decide if you will ship internationally, and where domestically. To set up a general shipping profile, follow these steps:
From your Shopify admin, go to Settings > Shipping and delivery.
In the General shipping rates section, click Manage.
In the Shipping origins section, make any changes to your locations. For more information, refer to Managing your fulfillment locations.
For each shipping zone that you want in your shipping profile, complete the following steps:
Click Save.
I trust that helps, but if you have questions I'd be more than glad to answer them from Shopify's end.
Warm regards,
