I need to change the PayPal Business account linked with my Shopify store

I created my Shopify account using a new email for my business, and Shopify automatically reserved that email for me on PayPal Express Checkout so that I could receive payments. However, I still need to complete the setup of this account, and the problem is that all my legal information for this business is already linked to a PayPal Business account that I created two years ago. What can I do? Should I finish completing the setup of my account with the Shopify email and only enter other information, or should I change the email of my old PayPal Business account to this new email that I'm using for my Shopify store?


Also, I have some customer orders that have already been placed and are just waiting for the payment method to be adjusted so that I can receive the money. If I change the account or modify the email, will these orders be canceled?

Changing the PayPal account on file will not automatically cancel the orders where PayPal was used, no. However, if you have accepted payments via this PayPal account before completing set up, I would not recommend disabling it yet. You'll want to complete the account set up in order to receive the payouts that you are due.


I am not aware if you having another PayPal Business account will prevent you from completing set up for this one; my guess would be that it is not an issue, but you'd be best served speaking with PayPal directly about this to find out. I am sure if you explain the situation to them they can assist with you retrieiving the funds from the orders processed via PayPal already.


Once this has been done, you can disable the default account for PayPal and connect your previous Business account if you wish. I would just recommend making sure you have received the funds you're due to be paid via the other account first.
