Accepting credit cards, warehouses, and shipping and fulfilling orders
I'm trying to figure out how to set up a shipping scenario for products over 101lbs on my website. I set up a shipping rate in Shopify, and I think it would work for the time being, except it says "free" and I don't like that.
I'd love to remove the "Free" on the left hand side, and I'd love to have the right hand FREE say: call for shipping quote. I'd be ok with them being able to complete their order and then pay us later and if they don't pay for it, we can just cancel their order. Anyone have any ideas how to do this? Thanks!
hi @sextonoffroadTo set up a Shopify shipping scenario for products over 101 lbs and modify the "Free" label, you can follow these steps:
Regarding requesting a quote, I am not sure how to do this natively in Shopify or if Shopify allows customization of the rate labels directly in the shipping settings. However, I am sure there will be lots of apps that will allow you to do just that.
Thank you for your response. I essentially have that set up now, but I think the high arbitrary number will scare people off. Is it possible to say "call for price" instead of the high flat rate? Thanks!
I would say both options can be a hit or a miss, so you might need to try things out before finalizing which one to go ahead with. Flat rates can be tricky if you are not sure of the real shipping rates. And tbh it will always feel like guessing.
Requesting for a quote can work but then you will never be too sure of the sales potential if you let customers pay upfront, instead of waiting for the quote.
I am just curious about why you wouldn't go the real-time shipping rates route. that way customers get accurate shipping rates and they can place orders confidently. And you can get rid of the flat rates and the guesswork that comes along with it.
Hi @sextonoffroad - Have you tried integrating with an LTL Freight provider to show accurate shipping cost at checkout. An option to call for quote may turn potential customer to abandoned the purchase as they may loose interest and find the product elsewhere.
