Accepting credit cards, warehouses, and shipping and fulfilling orders
Hello, this is my first post. It is still quite confusing to me, as there are many posts around stating that we can only use credit cards for subscription fee, or paying the suppliers.
In my country, people need to prove that they have a minimum amount of income to sign up for credit card (Which I'm limited by as I'm still a student, I only have a debit card).
I really want to start a dropshipping business here, so I need to know when is the point that we can ONLY use credit card.
Things that I've heard require credit card, they might be outdated, just want to confirm:
1) Shopify subscription or domain purchase?
2) Payment to suppliers?
3) Usage of shopify payment gateway requires credit card?
4) Any other points that require ONLY credit card and nothing else
Hey there,
I'm Ann, from the team here at Shopify 🙂
At this time, for the majority of countries that use Shopify, we do require monthly payments to come off a credit card. So you would need a valid credit card in order to continue using the platform after the 14 day free trial.
That said, this is only necessary for your monthly payments to Shopify, if you find a third party domain provider that lets you purchase a custom domain without a credit card, you can use that. You can also try to configure things with your supplier to see if they would take payment without a credit card. Finally, as for payment gateways, depending on the payment gateway you chose, you would have to reach out to them to find out if they require a credit card. If you let me know what country you're located in, I can send you a list of payment gateways you can work with!
I hope this helps! If you have any more questions or concerns feel free to reach out to us on this thread 🙂
Have a great one,
Ann

I'm from India. i still have 12 days of trial. and also i want to select a plan right away and start my store. Now im stuck with this new shopify problem, which is they apparently accept only credit cards to subscribe to their monthly plans. But i have only visa debit card. Now is there any way i can subscribe shopify using my debit card and start my store right away?
What did you do..i have same problem now
Hey, I'm from India I couldn't pay for the monthly subscription due to the unavailability of a credit card. Is there any other way for me to pay for the monthly subscription?
Thank you, Ann, very fast reply within 24 hours, love the shopify support!
For subscription, I've also seen some people are able to use Debit cards that are Visa or Mastercard, but comes with some consequences, is this true?
I'm living in Singapore, and I intend to target the market of US.
[Unrelated to this section, but one of my tons of questions]
Is there anything that I have to take note of if I want to target the US market while I'm living in Singapore? Such as setting up a company in US, paying sale taxes for different states?
Thank you for your help Ann 🙂
Hey hey,
Thanks for the kind words! That's what we love to hear 🙂
There have been cases where people have been successful in using Debit Visa or Debit Mastercard in order to pay for their monthly subscription, however, this isn't something we support. That means, that it might work, but at this time, it's not guaranteed. Additionally, there have been cases where one month the card accepts our charge, and the next month it's declined. You can reach out to the provider to see if they can shed any more light on this, or you can try testing a card like that in our platform, but again, there's no guarantee that it will go through.
As for living in Singapore and targetting the US, there aren't any extra steps you need to take, just make sure that you have a payment gateway that accepts payment in USD. As for taxes, you would need to speak to a local tax authority to see what kind of rates you should be charging, or whether you will need to charge taxes at all. Taxes will vary from country to country all over the world, so talking to someone local and letting them know what you'll be selling, and where you'll be shipping will help you get to the bottom of this!
Let me know if you have any more questions 🙂
Have a great one,
Ann

Thank you Ann,
So for the "One month accept charge, next month decline" issue, as long as I get my bank to allow Shopify to charge me, it will be okay?
Hey hey,
Like I mentioned, there isn't any guarantee we can provide here, so it might be okay or it might not. I definitely recommend talking to your bank to find out more!
Let me know if that helps clear things up 🙂
