Item Returned, New Shipping Label?

Solved

Hi everyone, I had a customer input the wrong address into their shipping for their order, so the item came back to me. They still want it, but since the order is archived I can't buy/print a new shipping label for the same order with the new address. How would I go about just getting a new label so that I can just resend this order out to the customer?

Thanks!

Hi @blackgate1,

Dani here from Shopify. Thanks for writing in!

In this case, you'll need to duplicate your order and update the shipping address for the customer's correct address. You can duplicate the order by going to the order page within your admin and selecting More actions > Duplicate order:

Since you likely aren't charging the customer again, you can add a discount here. You can also include the cost of the shipping label here if you would like to charge the customer for the new delivery cost.

At that point, you can edit the customer's shipping address and mark the order as paid. You can then proceed to purchase and ship the order as normal.

Let me know if you have any further questions!

All the best,

Dani

I wouldn’t do that. That will mess up your inventory count , cost of good calculation and so your profit and loss report. You either go ship it by yourself and record this expense manually or create a test item with no cost and do the same steps, but I’m not sure if this will affect your eligibility for a refund from ups in case the package was lost.

Agree, Union-prints-ga!  I have this situation right now, too.  Customer put the wrong address on the order, so it came back to me.  To Shopify:  why should I mess up my sales and inventory numbers just to print out a new shipping label?  Fix this already!

The Solution methodology as suggested by Shopify Staff above will overstate reported Sales (because we create an Order for the same item twice), right?  Also, it will lead to incorrect inventory count (for example if we had two of the item in stock, and shipped one, then create duplicate order to re-ship the item, inventory will show as zero when in reality there is still one), right?

. . .and paying sales tax that you didn't collect on.  to me that's the real cost of this method.
