Accepting credit cards, warehouses, and shipping and fulfilling orders
I just got an email from Shopify saying that Klarna is now available through Shopify Payments.
I've already been using Klarna for a while but it's as an "additional payment method" under settings > payments, rather than through Shopify Payments.
Is there any benefit of changing my setup to get it through Shopify Payments instead? Will the Klarna option show up in the same way on the checkout page, are the fees the same, etc? The help docs say nothing about existing users.
Any info appreciated, thank you.
I am no expert but this is the information I have found and the reasons we have switch to using it through shopify payments:
- 4.99% + 30p per a transaction compared to 5.25% +30p
this could change depending on your plan
- Ability for international markets to use in their own currency and use Klarna on your store (Such as Europe etc)
- Payment is made to you as a Shopify Payout (Easier to manage accounting wise)
- 1% fee is not added on by shopify for using it as additional payment method
So you save 1.25% on fees, smoother accounting side and more customers can use Klarna rather than just your home country.
Seems a win and if you are already accepted its a simple toggle switch. If you have issues toggle it back, it shows just as normal in checkout.
Thanks so much for sharing your insight and experience. This does look good, especially the accounting bit! I'm going to give it a go.

Check this article and solution. It supports Klarna and many payment methods via Stripe and does not require you to pay extra commissions.
Thanks, I was looking for this, I found the solution with Stripe without having a Klarna Merchant Account.
Just what I was looking for. I have just had an argument with Klarna after two weeks of trying to set up a Klarna Merchant Account only to be asked do you have Shopify? To confirm... you do not need a Merchant account! Just click the little Klarna button on Shopify under your 'payments method' section and it's added onto your Shopify payment gateway... just like that. To advertise you're offering Klarna I use the free app: Conversion Bear Trust Badges and have added this along with my other payment options.
Guys sorry to jump onto post I have never opened a Klarna Merchant Account, direct with Klarna. The below was on my shopify home page. Ive enabled this and it does figure at the check out page
question is - do i still need to open and get approved for a Klarna Shopify account ?
Many Thanks

But as far as I can tell if it offered it to you on the dashboard and you can enable it then you are already good to go and it's comes through as part of your Shopify payout, everything is handled by Shopify.
If it's showing it at the checkout page you are good to go.
Ok great
yes it shows at check out and directs to klarna for payment processing
If you have a Stripe account, no you don’t need to open a Klarna merchant account, you just need to enable Klarna in your Stripe settings.
Is there anyway to show Klarna Payment on a product page ?
there doesn’t seem to be
cheers
You can edit your theme and add a Klarna button.
Just to confirm ,is it working now for you ,or do we still need to have klarna merchant account
