I find it challenging to set up Shipping rates in Shopify for our products that are produced by Printify. We have the Basic Shopify Plan and cannot use the third party shipping calculator for Printify. What is the best suggestion if we have to set our own rates: use Flat Rates or Shipping by Cost or by Weight?

Or is it worth the increased cost to jump to the Shopify Plan? We are a small operation at this time and are trying to keep costs down.

Would like to know what has worked best for store owners who produce their products through Printify.

Thank you!

Hi stephenj,

Thanks for your quick reply. I also thought I could add the carrier-calculated rates to the Basic Plan, but the website is telling me I cannot. Can you please advise on how to do that? I feel if I can have Printify handle shipping rates for our store, it would make my life easier and would pay the fee.

Can you confirm I can indeed set up third party calculated shipping rates through Printify if I pay for an add on in the Basic Shopify plan? Or is the market area a different place to set up local and int’s shipping? I want to make it as easy as possible and if there’s a way without pay for an add on I’m open to hearing about it.

Hi @TMS22!

Yes, to display calculated shipping rates from any Shopify app, the Carrier Calculated Shipping (CCS) feature must be enabled. Since you're currently on the Basic Shopify Plan, you can go with the following options for setting up your shipping rates:
  • Flat rates based on order price or weight — This lets you charge shipping depending on how much the customer orders or how heavy the items are.

  • Simple flat rates without conditions — If you want to keep things easy, just set a fixed shipping rate without any conditions.

In my perspective, for small businesses still finding their footing, flat rates work best. It keeps things manageable and gives your customers a clear idea of what to expect at checkout.

As your business grows, you might consider switching to a higher plan (to include CCS feature) to access real-time shipping rates for more accuracy.

Hope this helps!
