New Store - Business Verification: Can't Setup Payments for Shopify to pay me

Anyone else having issues with Business Verification portion on Payments when starting a new store?

I've asked Shopify to assist, and they escalated but nothing yet and it's been weeks.  I've contacted IRS, everything is on file and available, to include my business name and EIN are exactly what is on this site.  My business name is not a DBA. The exact name from my EIN document is defined and everything is correct.  But on verification under payments can't get past this.

"There is 1 error:

  • Business tax id does not match company name. Please ensure that your legal business name is exactly as registered with the IRS. DBAs ("doing business as" names) cannot be used in this registration."

Anyone getting this error?  Even when I clicked submit it acts like it does nothing and sometimes the screen banner vanishes, and it appears to work only to complain about this again the next day.  I'm afraid if I can't figure this out, I have to use another platform.

Thx

Hi, @Citizen-22. Thank you for sharing all of that context! While we're unable to look into this further in the Shopify Community I can share some information to help.

To start, you'll want to ensure you're using the details found on a federal document issued by the IRS. We don't check against state-issued documents so please make sure you're using a federal document like an IRS EIN Confirmation Letter (CP-575), or a 147c letter. You'll also want to ensure you are typing this information in rather than copy and pasting it. Some things to keep in mind as you type this in:

  • Make sure that your name and EIN matches exactly, including capitalization and punctuation.
  • If you're using a CP-575 document, make sure you are using the name on the first line of the document, even if it is a personal name.
  • If the name is long it may span multiple lines on your IRS document. Please ensure you enter the entire business name.
  • Special characters can cause issues so try to type out the character. For example, if the IRS document says & try typing and instead.
  • If this is a newly issued EIN it's possible that the IRS' system has not been updated. It can take between 30 and 60 days for their systems to update.

If you're still having trouble with this you'll need to speak with our support team through the Help Center so we can help further. If you already have an open ticket about this with our support team I'd recommend replying directly to that thread as well.

Do I still use up my trial period while it takes 30-60 days?

I cannot do anything further so not sure if my trial period or subscription counter should be ticking since I'm at an stand still here.

Also, I'm submitting my W-9 and other info the other person asked for as well.

Thanks,
Clint

Hey again, @Citizen-22. Thanks for following up with us! Questions around your trial period are best directed to the folks assisting you with this verification process. As they have already authenticated you (something we're unable to do here in the Community Forums), they'll be able to provide you with some insights into how your free trial time was being handled during this verification process.
