Accepting credit cards, warehouses, and shipping and fulfilling orders
Hi
We are just setting up our new Shopify site and we are trying to test some payments, but it isn't working.
We have set up our payment gateway correctly (are far as I know), but no payment methods seem to be working.
I have tried different cards using the general Shopify Pay card processing function. I have also tried Paypal and G Pay, but they all result in this type of error:
None of these attemped orders are showing up in the orders page at all.
I would appreciate some advice.
Regards
Jonathan
Hi, @jonnyd1337. I'm happy to look into this with you! I just have a few questions to make sure I'm giving you helpful advice going forward.
The best way to test orders would be to follow the steps in this guide to simulate a transaction through Shopify's Bogus Gateway. You can also use Shopify Payments test mode to simulate transactions. You can learn more about testing Shopify Payments here.
At the moment you can't use Shop Pay in test mode, so if you are testing this payment method specifically you would need to place a test order with a real transaction instead of using test mode. We don't typically recommend testing with real payments as it is against the terms and conditions of some payment gateways and can result in some processing fees, but if it is permitted by your payment gateway you can still test with real payments. In this case you would want to ensure you immediately cancel and refund the order after your test.
If you're testing with a real payment and are still having trouble, another thing I'd recommend here is to review your abandoned checkouts to see if you can find more information about why these payments weren't accepted. The abandoned checkout payment events can give you insight into what happened with the payment. You can learn more about how to review your abandoned checkouts here.
Happy to help if you have more questions after trying out the steps I shared!
