So I have a new Shopify store and the only method of payment I'm able to provide my customers is PayPal. Other gateways do not work in my country.
I get a lot of customers from Ukraine, Italy, etc and I've noticed they all abandon their carts. Could that be because PayPal isn't well established in their countries?
Is it alright that I only offer payments via PayPal? Could I be losing customers? Should I only stick to marketing in countries that have fully established PayPal?
Hi there Tuba!
Don here from Shopify. :)
There could be a variety of reasons why customers online might not complete their checkout.
One thing you can do about this is to try to recover abandoned checkouts by emailing a reminder.
It might also be a good idea to check in with PayPal to ensure that your account is set up correctly.
I would check to ensure that the country set in your Shopify admin settings matches that set in your PayPal account as account info mismatches like this could definitely lead to issues with your customers checking out.
If you can let us know here in which country your store is based we can provide a full list of the gateways available for use with Shopify there.
I am in Canada and I just tried your checkout process, and it worked just fine for me. I thought maybe you were not accepting credit cards, only Paypal, and that was why some people would back out, but I can see you are accepting credit cards via your Paypal account so that would not be the problem. I could not see any problem with your checkout process.
Hi Tuba - I didn't make a purchase but I went through the entire checkout process until I got to the point where I could see very clearly where I could enter a credit card. I didn't enter a credit card and process an order, however. If there was a problem with Paypal processing your credit card orders I think you would see failed transactions rather than people backing out of the checkout process.
