Physical Gift Cards - Ship from online shop

I just made an order for physical gift cards from Shopify, and I am finding the documentation and user interface less than transparent.

My next question: How do I sell a preloaded physical gift card from the shop, as a shipped/physical product? I have added a gift card product, and it doesn't seem to have the "physical product" option.

(This seems like a common use case of physical cards, so I'm surprised I can't find a simple way to do this.)

Please no responses suggesting paid or third-party apps. If a fairly technical user can't do this out of the box, the gift card functionality isn't a minimum viable product let alone competitive.

So I talked to Shopify about this, and there is no functionality for shipping gift cards.  The gift card product is digital only, and cannot be shipped.  The way I got around this was to create a physical product for the gift card, with the value options as variants.  I also created a shipping profile for just this item so that I can offer lower shipping for a regular envelope because everything else in our store ships in packages by weight.  The only problem is that you can't have a custom value box, like you can on the digital card.

When someone purchases this item, I then manually create a gift card, changing the code in Shopify to the code that is on the back of the gift card.  It is more tedious than it should be, but it works.
