Hi,
after deploying the modification (https://changelog.shopify.com/posts/enable-ship-to-store-fulfillment-and-offer-better-in-store-picku...) the cart no longer shows the option to pick up in another country, which made the whole process very complicated for our process (we offer pickup at events worldwide). We also tried external plugins, but none solved this problem.
Would it be possible to enable this function again, or at least advise how to display the nearest pickup points (even though they are abroad)?

Can you explain this more please how a can a customer pickup an order on an other country?

As I wrote – we know that in a few days/weeks we will be at a specific event somewhere in the world, and there our customers (from any country) will be able to pick up the ordered goods that we will bring there. So they won't have to pay for shipping.

 

It's not important why we use it like that, but why it worked last week and now it doesn't. And how to return this option, which suited us perfectly.

Hi @tjay111,
If your issue is caused by the changes of the default Shopify functionality, then I assume you should reach Shopify support on that. They should explain why the behaviour has been changed and if there is a way to get it back.

If you miss flexibility for in-store pickup options displayed at checkout, then you may consider apps such as Calcurates.

We have the exact same problem. All of a sudden, people from other countries cannot select pick-up anymore. We're talking with Shopify, but apparently, they're not really familiar with the issue.

We are also having this exact issue. We supply schools in a country whose pupils come from all over the world. Their parents could order from our store globally before the update and now they are unable to view the pick up locations at checkout. The store hasn't worked now for 9 days and I have been on with Shopify Support every day since. They raised it as a bug fix with shipping who are now trying to say that the store never had the ability for people to view the locations from outside of the country - they must have been using VPN. It has been infuriating and Shopify will not accept that their update has removed this functionality.

I received a response from Shopify confirming that the local pickup option, as we used it before, is no longer working due to the recent change. They promised to consider this as a feature request, but there is no clear timeline for when it will be addressed. I'm trying to get this resolved as soon as possible, as our business heavily relies on it. As both our normal and Plus stores have the same issue.

Received another reply from Shopify Plus Support. Seems like this is an intentional change. Very unsatisfied on the way how Shopify basically removed this feature without any notice. I think the only thing we can do right now is just let Shopify know that this change must be reverted.

Currently, the modification to the local pickup feature, which restricts it to customers within the same country as the pickup location, is by design. This change was implemented as part of our recent enhancements to local pickup extensibility, aimed at standardizing operations across all merchants. As of now, there is no option available to opt out of this updated functionality.

Same problem here, we know for sure that using the pickup options from other countries worked until recently. I have contacted support and they told me it is just not a native functionality and then referred me to hire there shopify partners to create a custom solution. I can't but see this as Shopify removing basic functionality just to push their own customers to spend more money with their partners. I hope enough people will let them know this is a problem and Shopify reverts their actions.

I think its more worrying that Shopify removes such feature without notice. And now is hiding behind a solution to hire a developer. Why should you invest more money into custom solutions if Shopify can just pull the plug without notice again.

Same problem here - my client has a Shop in Switzerland and it is very common that customers from Germany or France will pick up their pieces. Very disappointing that the option was removed.

Get a load of this reply...: I have the same issue, except in that our International Customers can't choose "will call", because we don't have International locations....Here is Shopify's response:

 

We've identified the cause of this. Recently, the local pickup option at checkout was updated to enhance location-based services, which now uses the IP address of the customer to automatically set their country at checkout. As a result, international customers may not see any available pickup locations.
 
However, customers can override this by selecting Change my location and entering any US address, which will then display the pickup options.


We understand the desire to want to ensure that USA locations remain visible without having to enter an address. It's feedback we've passed back our developers to consider moving forward.
 
A good workaround could be to set up a new shipping rate. You might consider adding a free shipping option specifically for international customers, named something like Use your own UPS shipping account (invoiced after order is placed). This way these customers can check out without having to select local pickup.

 

These are hardly workable.

Shopify gave us "Third party" apps to fix this. But forgot these third party apps aren't for the check-out. And thus need to be choosen in the cart which we have custom build.

Still pretty mad on Shopify that they've changed this so badly.

This overlooks the reality of cross-border commerce, particularly in regions like the Netherlands, where Belgium and Germany can be within just a few kilometers. Many of our Belgium and German customers specifically choose to pick up their orders in The Netherlands, as it is often more convenient than shipping. Adding my view here since I'd like this to be resolved.

Apparently, if the customer enters the exact same city and country that the pickup location is set to into the "Change my location" field, it will show the pickup location for shoppers outside the country. It’s a workaround, but a very messy one as it’s confusing for customers, because it needs a lot of extra steps.
