Thanks for sharing your question with our network. At this time, our Android POS is more limited than its' iOS counterpart, but you certainly have a few options for accepting credit payments:
Make sure to check the "tech specs" under each link to ensure compatibility and make sure you meet all requirements for using each reader. All of our other hardware also includes information on compatibility through Shopify's Hardware Store.
For any other questions that might come up around devices to use Shopify POS, make sure to check Shopify POS basic features by device.

Thank you for joining this thread and sharing your question. At this time, Shopify only supports the Wisepad 3 terminal for New Zealand.
As you mentioned, the Wisepad 3 reader is only compatible with iOS devices. An alternative option for payment processing in New Zealand, is to use an external card reader. Make sure to check out that link for further context on how external card readers work with Shopify.

I am new to Shopify, still in my 2-week free trial. I would like to proceed with using Shopify for my online store however I have an Android and all of the Android compatible POS card readers are sold out! when do you expect to have more available? I am hesitant to commit to Shopify if you cannot meet my needs. I do not want to have to use a third party for transactions.

Shopify POS absolutely works on Android devices, and many upgrades have been made since my original reply in 2021. Here is the full list of compatible devices:

I mis-stated my question. The Shopify POS app works on my android. I cannot find card readers that work with my android. All of the readers state that they are iOS. The links you provided in your earlier responses are now broken.
I have used my Shopify POS app on my phone but I had in input the card number etc. by hand.

Upon checking, I see that our stock for Android card readers is currently low. Therefore, I invite you to become a Chipper Tester for Android devices by using a brand new Chipper 2X BT card reader.
While this reader is only available for iOS users, we have opened beta testing with some Android merchants in order to be able to offer it to all Android users in the future. The cost for the Chipper 2X BT card reader is $49 USD as listed on our hardware store. If you have an Android device, this is the only reader you will be able to use to connect to your Shopify store.
For iOS counterparts, you may use the Tap & Chip card reader for the same price. Please note that the Tap & Chip card reader is currently out of stock, therefore, please continue with the Chipper 2X BT reader instead.

While I do not have any public information available on this matter, I can share that we are continuously looking to increase our product offering and support our merchants globally.
At this time, we support the WisePad 3 Terminal for iOS devices in the UK. If using an iOS device is not possible for you at this time, or you do not meet the eligibility requirements, then you may also use an external reader.
