Hi

What is meant by weight of a product? Net or gross weight?

I ask it because it's a parameter of the box shipping + customs information.

The thing is that from a logistics point of view the gross weight is relevant, but for customs the net weight (weight of the content of the primary packaging is only charged).

Hi @TomDP,

Thank you for reaching out to the Community! I'm happy to provide some assistance with product details, to ensure this gets resolved.

To provide some clarification, this would be the weight of the product itself. We require the actual weight of the product without the shipping box or any other packing materials in order to calculate accurate shipping rates. To learn more about adding products to the shop, you can check out our Product Details document as it touches on this further.

Please let me know if you have any other questions or concerns.

Hi @Blair

I do know to it excludes the weight of the shipping packaging.

But the product itself can also have a primary packaging (or even sometimes primary + secondairy)

On that packaging, the net weight of the product is mentioned.

This is what the customer buys (e.g. 1 kg of coffee) and matters for custom authorities.

But from a shipping point of view the weight of that primary packaging also matters.

The bag in which the coffee is stored can have a weight of 50 gram.

So if someone is buying 2 x 1 kg coffee, custom authorities are charging those 2 kg.

But you will ship 2 x 1 kg coffee + 2 x 50 g bag + 150 shipping box = 2,2 kg.

The 150 g is the weight of the shipment package.

But were do we put 2 x 50 g?

If product weight is gross weight then the coffee will be 1,05 kg (but this should not be used to calculate the custom tariff), if net 1 kg.

Best regards

Tom

hi @TomDP ,

If you use Shopify Shipping, you cannot configure multiple boxes to accommodate the precise requirements as you have mentioned. Instead, you can modify the shipping weight before generating the shipping label for each order.
