Purchasing Standard Shipping Label

Shopify provides an option to allow customers to select Standard Shipping as an option for shipping, but on the backend when I go to buy a shipping label, the cheapest option I can pick is Expedited. This usually costs at least $5 more than what the customer has paid. Does anyone know how I can pick Standard shipping when buying a label from my end?

It sounds like you might be referring to the standard shipping rate that's set in your Shopify admin when you first sign up with Shopify.

This should be looked at as an example of a shipping rate you could charge. You'll want to update this shipping rate based on your business' needs. The cost to purchase shipping labels from within your Shopify admin will differ based on which shipping carrier you select and where the package is being shipped to.

A few shipping rates you can consider are:

Calculated shipping rates: From what you've shared, it sounds like you're in a country that supports Shopify shipping, so you can display calculated shipping rates at the checkout. This would make what your customers pay at the checkout as close to what you're paying for a shipping label.

Just keep in mind that the shipping rate(s) shown at the checkout are based on your one default package. You can edit your default box' size and weight under your Shopify Admin > Settings > Shipping and delivery > Saved packages. If you end up selecting a different box size when printing your label to ship your products, you may see that the cost will differ from what the customer paid you. If you'd like to have an option to have more than one default box size used at the checkout, apps like Advanced shipping rules offer this functionality.

An alternative to using Shopify shipping's calculated rates is to connect an account you have with a third-party shipping company, using the third-party carrier-calculated shipping rates feature.

Flat shipping rates: Flat rate shipping is a good option if you'd like to offer your customers a specific amount for shipping at the checkout. The amount shown at the checkout can be based on the order's total cost or weight. This would work well if you have a pretty good idea of what your typical shipping costs are.

Free shipping rates: A free shipping rate is something you can offer for all orders or only those that meet a certain threshold to increase your average order value. To ensure your costs are covered, you could include the average cost to ship your product in your product prices.

If you decide to go with this option, it's a great idea to make sure this is clear on your website. For example, you could add an announcement banner.

If you're interested in knowing further details about each of these shipping rate options, have a read over our guide on shipping rates. From there, our guide on setting up shipping rates will walk you through the steps you'll need to take.

Let me know if there is any particular point or shipping rate that I can clarify for you further.

I hope you're enjoying your day!
