Recalculating shipping when editing an order

We frequently have customers calling us to add products to their orders before shipping, even if they've already paid. When editing the order from our store admin, added products do not cause the shipping to recalculate based on the newly added weight. Is there a workaround for this?

For clarity our shipping rates are set up in Shopify, and they are a flat base rate plus an incremental amount added per lbs. So if someone's original order was 2 lbs and their shipping rate was the flat $15 plus $1.00 per lbs, they paid $17.00. I want it to be that if we add another 2 lbs product in the store admin, it would recalculate the amount they owe for the amount of the new plant, plus an additional $2 shipping.

Hello @Tigridia ,

When you edit the orders, shipping costs will not be calculated; you need to manually adjust the shipping cost.

Another alternative approach is to add a new draft order instead of editing. In this case, shipping rates will be calculated automatically, similar to the checkout.

There are a couple of workarounds you could try:

Manual shipping adjustment: When you edit an order to add products, manually adjust the shipping cost to reflect the changes. You can calculate the additional shipping cost based on the weight of the added products and update the shipping charge accordingly.

Shipping adjustment product: Create a "Shipping Adjustment" product in your Shopify store with a price of $1 (or the smallest currency unit). When you need to adjust shipping costs, add the appropriate quantity of this product to the order to reflect the increased shipping cost.
