Accepting credit cards, warehouses, and shipping and fulfilling orders
Hi Community,
Is there a way I can refund the COD amount to the customer using UPI or Bank transfer? Im using shopify advanced plan on my Indian Store, is there any app or plugins with which I can achieve this?
Hi @Aliasgar,
A Cash on Delivery order (also known as a "collect on delivery") means that the exchange of funds between you as the store owner and the buyer happened outside of Shopify. In other words, you did not receive money through the Shopify system.
So you cannot authorize the refund from within your store, you will have to do it through whichever manual payment method you used originally.
How was the order paid for? If your customer paid using a credit or debit card, you should be able to authorize a refund from your bank straight back to their card.
How is your store doing? Are you feeling prepared for BFCM?

I understand your point, however every time a customer asks for a refund on a COD order I have to add the customer as a payee by adding his/her bank details. it's quite a hassle for a one-time payment. So if there was a UPI option it would be easy for my company to pay back the amount.
I understand that your current refund process isn't optimized, so you may need to look at alternatives for that.
Shopify is not a bank, so it is not possible to offer the Unified Payments Interface option that you suggest. However, you could always look at using something like Revolut for quicker, easier payment transfers or refunds!
