Refund for difference in shipping cost.

I received an order from a customer, and they paid $6.33 in shipping. When making the label, I was able to reduce the cost of shipping to $3.96 by correcting the default package size option. Does the difference in shipping cost get sent back to the customer automatically, or will I have to do it manually? If manually, how can I do a partial refund for that cost? Thank you.

The difference in shipping cost does not get sent back to the customer automatically. You'll need to issue a partial refund manually. To do this, go to your Shopify admin, find the order, click on "Refund," and enter the amount to refund for the shipping difference.

The difference in shipping cost won’t be refunded automatically. You’ll need to issue a partial refund manually. Here's how to do it, depending on the platform you're using to process your orders:

For most e-commerce platforms (like Shopify, Etsy, or eBay):

  1. Locate the Order: Go to your order management page and find the specific order.
  2. Initiate a Partial Refund: Look for the option to issue a refund and select "Partial Refund" or an option to specify the refund amount.
  3. Enter the Refund Amount: Input the difference in shipping cost ($2.37 in this case) as the amount to refund.
  4. Confirm the Refund: Review the amount and reason, and confirm the partial refund.

The shipping cost difference will not be automatically refunded to the customer. You will need to manually process a partial refund for the difference in cost. To do this, you can go to your order details in your platform ( e.g., Shopify, eBay), and find the option to issue a partial refund. Make sure to enter the difference ($2.37) and notify the customer of the adjustment.
