Refund problem

Our shop is dormant at the moment pending a redesign so we are getting no money in but we have had to make one refund. The refund is shown as having been done and it said the money would be deducted from our next payment on the 31st of December. But no money has gone out of our account. What happens if we refund someone but we're getting no payments in? I'd rather not ask the customer whether they've been refunded just yet until I get an answer to this....
