Shipping by Weight - Need Shopify to Combine to Total Weight

Our courier charges us by weight, so we want to charge shipping by total weight of an order.

It seems we can assign a weight to each order but at this point we also have to assign a shipping cost.

A customer could order various products in their basket, which means they will be charged a shipping cost for each item.

Can Shopify not calculate the total weight, so shipping is then charged by the total weight of the order?

Create only one shipping profile and set shipping rates based on weight-based ranges.

0-5kg - $10
5-10kg - $20
etc.

If you create multiple shipping profiles, the shipping rates will be combined.
