Accepting credit cards, warehouses, and shipping and fulfilling orders
Hi,
We ship all over the UK and Shopify allows us to separate our shipping zones for places like Isle of Man, Guernsey, etc. enabling us to charge more for shipping to these locations. However, it is also more expensive to ship to the Highlands & Islands in Scotland and there is no provision for adding these additional costs to these orders. I have searched the discussions online and it appears that this has been a problem for some time and I have attached the link to a similar discussion https://community.shopify.com/c/shopify-design/uk-shipping-zones/td-p/766959. But, there is still no solution. I really don't want to pay for an app to enable me to ship to this part of Scotland. I would be interested to know if a solution is available within the Shopify platform. Thanks.
Hi @greenblueberry1,
Thank you for your post. This is something I have spoken to numerous merchants who ship within the UK about and I know it's a pain point for those who have customers throughout Scotland. It is not possible at this time to differentiate the Highlands & Islands and the rest of Scotland within your shipping zones, but I will be sure to pass on your feedback to our development team who focus on developing our shipping platform over time.

Yes, I second this. Please could a separate shipping zone for the Scottish isles be created asap?
Hi @hrwatson,
Thank you for taking the time to add your name to this feature request; I will be sure to pass your comment on as well. I can't promise anything or provide any sort of timeline on when this change may be made, but I do know that our shipping team is aware of this pain point for merchants who ship within the UK and to all areas of Scotland in particular. Merchant feedback plays a significant role in how we decide to evolve our platform over time so your request is appreciated.

You must be kidding that this isn't already possible ? I can easily do this on other platforms.
Is there any progress on this as I do a lot of shipping to the Channel Islands so need to charge extra postage to these areas.
I agree we need this desperately too, I have complelety developed a new site on Shopify thinking there would be an obvious way to set up shipping even with an app but there is not?? All our other sites are on Magento and I thought I had found the perfect replacement in Shopify however this is a game changer. Its impossible to ship large bulking items to the highlands of Scotland for the same price as mainland UK. So I think for now we are back to Magento.
We also support this. The difference between shipping an item somewhere on the mainland and shipping to Highlands and islands can be as much as £20 - that's a lot of profit on a small priced item. Come on Shopify - time to assist your UK members please!
Hello Victor,
Is there any update on this issue? Our business has just opened a Shopify store and we would like to add our names to this feature request. This is a vital feature for UK sellers and we would appreciate it being implemented urgently. We were shocked to discover that there was no way to separate Isle of Wight and Scottish Highlands & Islands out from our standard zones as our shipping costs to these locations are significantly more expensive than shipping to the rest of England & Scotland and it is not feasible for us to offer the same shipping rates to customers of ours located in these areas.
PLEASE can you sort this out?? Its the most annoying thing about the platform for UK store owners.
any more updates, please?
Hello Shopify Staff - please can you get this fixed ASAP. It cant be difficult to set up a separate shipping area called Highlands and Islands.
+1 For me. The shipping costs and times to Scottish Highlands are a problem.
With products that have fine margins, taking a hit on £4 extra shipping charge or charging all of Scotland an extra £4 for each delivery is quite crippling.
Hi Victor, any update on when this fix will be available on the platform? Many thanks in advance 🙂
Hi Victor,
This needs to be addressed ASAP
This week we have set Scotland as a different zone meaning anyone buying from Scotland will get an additional charge - which sucks for anybody south of Aberdeen! Please sort this out ASAP Shopify, it's unfair on everybody.
Any updated on this yet? It's been awfully quiet from the Shopify team regarding this. This is a serious requirement rather than just feedback. All UK users will need this to happen rather than having to pay for external apps.
Do we have an ETA on this really easy-to-fix issue yet?
Any luck with this? I see this back from january this year and I still can't find a solution.
I would like to add my request for this feature too. The fact other countries including those in the UK can be set as different zones already, I can't believe this fix still hasn't been sorted.
I'm guessing there's still no fix for this, right? Postcode delivery zones come as standard on WordPress with Woo Commerce, you know.
Hello, is there an update on this, I am loosing money on shipping items to Scotland like many others.
Surely it cannot be that hard to add a new zone / custom zone.
It is the same. for Europe, there is no way to exclude french Dom Toms and Islands of Spain, someone orders to Spain and has it delivered to Ibiza for example costs over 100 Euros! But shopify thinks it is Spain...
This issue was raised ages ago and it's still a massive problem for many people. Surely it's not that hard to set up a separate shipping rate for the outlying islands!!! Why are you ignoring this issue and all these messages?
Any updates?
yep, have the same issue. Just paid 22 quid for a parcel to highlands! Customer got free delivery!
We're getting stung on this on a weekly basis too. Come on Shopify!
Yes agree we need separate shipping zone for Isle of Wight, Isle of Man, Northern Ireland and the Scottish Highlands & Islands.
I received another Price Increase for the surcharge to Highlands and Islands today. Shopify really do need to sort this out as quickly as possible.
Any update? We keep getting stung having to pay the higher charges and cant pass this on? Cant he that hard to add?
Me too. Surely easy to add some shipping zones? I'm having to use DHL via Ship Theory and they both tell me that Shopify is responsible for the shipping zones which vary hugely!
@Shopify we really need this vital functionality. You don't allow access to edit the cart so it's a disservice that you don't supply a solution to this.
We sell rugs, and the larger and heavier ones can be up to £50 more to send than 'mainland' UK.
It's horrible on a human level, a business level and a customer service/reputational level to have to contact customers after they purchase to say we have to take money for delivery or cancel your order.
Please fix this!
we really need this as an option! any updates? Our shipping bill was 10x what is should be as lots of our customers come from the highlands and we had no way to change this. Any advice would be great
In the end we installed this app https://apps.shopify.com/shipping-based-on-zipcode?st_source=autocomplete it's only $9.99 pm and works very well for UK postcodes. The support team are excellent and helped us get everything set up for no extra cost, so I would highly recommend them. Its not great that Shopify doesn't have at least a basic version of postcode shipping but hopefully it will in the future.
I would also like to see an option for Highlands and Islands as it is costing a fortune in extra postage.
100% agree - we need to be able to seperate shipping costs for Highlands and all UK islands, not just the ones with different tax regimes.
Come on Shopify its now 2024, over a year since this was asked to be added? Its not as if anyone is asking anything difficult just add another region for Scottish Highlands? Most other platforms already have this option. Should not take 12mths for a simple request to be sorted!
I had this same conversation with shopify support yesterday. As my shop is growing I’ve noticed I’ve been losing money on sales to the highlands and Scottish isles. Their only advice was to increase the shipping cost to the whole of Scotland which is going to make shipping so much higher to two big cities in the uk and put off customers. I can’t believe this was brought to their attention a year ago and they still haven’t fixed this issue. I gave them the postcodes that are more costly to ship to, how is it not a simple fix for them? It’s a huge issue and the face they are not taking so many uk seller seriously is a huge red flag for shopify for me.
I guess their US customer base is so much bigger it’s more of a priority for them to have it in place. I don’t know what more we can do for them to see how big an issue this is for a lot of people and actually fix it!
I know, it’s ridiculous. And I begrudge having to pay extra for an app every month for something that isn’t a nice extra to add to my store, but should be a basic function already provided!
Shopify is clearly not looking after this thread either anymore considering there are no more comments from this Victor from the start of the thread. I'll be contacting Shopify myself about this matter and also linking back to this thread. It might be worth it if you all contact Shopify about this same issue we are having to try and get their attention as this would benefit so many users.
In the end we had to opt for the same solution recommended by DizzyLizzy (ShipZip - thanks to DizzyLizzy for this). It has opened our eyes to how much more functionality that's Standard on other platforms is missing from Shopify: order cut offs, order throttling and limiting, holiday/closure blocking, delivery date scheduling/picker. All of these have been left for the aftermarket to address, so come at a $14.99 premium per month, leaving us depending on the app provider to keep supporting it after we've invested in setup. We've also found that the taxes and duties settings on Shopify are not working adequately for the UK shipping zone - not at all ideal and not an area anyone can afford to fall short on. Anyone else found this?
Still no reply to this thread isnt great from Shopify, we have this same issue, we have over 39,000 proucts and certain manufcaturers charge extra for Highlands delivery, one this week was £150.00 net for extra delivery so i either have to add that to my base price so everyone gets stung or punish the whole of Scotland by adding it as a custom rule for these products, but the only options is to add the whole of Scotland.
This is basic a feature that should be included in all Shopify plans !!
We would also really appreciate this!
I cannot ship products to any off shore islands in the UK, for example Isle of Wight etc. There is no way to exclude any of the Islands from Mainland UK. Plus Scottish islands is virtually classed as offshore due to such high delivery charges to get goods delivered their. These are basic shipping requirements!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Come on Shopify get it together, for a global company this is very poor and incredibly basic shipping settings for an ecommerce store. We need to EXCLUDE postcodes. Give us this native functionality. Apps that do this cost a bloody fortune and they charge monthly too!!
Hi,
This still seems to be a problem. Please can we get an update on when this will be fixed?
Shopify doesn't allow me to separate shipping zones for places like Isle of Man, Guernsey, etc. Utter nonsense!
CORRECTION: Shopify does not have functionality to separate shipping zones for places like Isle of Man, Guernsey!
