Accepting credit cards, warehouses, and shipping and fulfilling orders
Greetings,
We have a product that will be shipped in its own packaging. I have input the weight on the product, and believe I setup the proper Shipping profile for it. However, when it is calculating shipping, the cost to go from one item to two items increases by a small amount (see below). I think this is because it's only factoring in the weight and not that it will be two separate packages. I would think it would double the cost of shipping when going from one to two items, but it does not. Looking for help!
Thanks,
Did you figure this out? I'm in the same boat. I am trying to figure out if I should ship my items combined or individually, and am confused by the shipping. Maybe since they are going to the same location, the cost for multiple boxes is less?
Not yet... I'm looking into a few plugins. It's not clear if pricing is significantly less if same location with two boxes. But, currently the calculated pricing is only like $0.50 more for a second item that weighs 10.5lbs. It should be more clear in the product description that the item ships in its own box.
It's also weird that there is no talk of it. I don't see a way to combine items for shipping if you wanted to.
It's also weird that we're both obviously new and ready to launch our stores and nobody wants to help us?
This is something we need greatly! We sell trains and some of these come as sets that are shipped in there own box and can't be combined with other items or with 2 of itself. If they could just add a flag to the product that says item is individually boxed. So when 2 are added it would calculated for 2 shipments automatically instead of 1 single one.
I guess I'm just confused, isn't Shopify huge? This is the kind of feature I could see a site "screwing up" and not having on launch day, and fixing within a few days. This isn't the kind of "feature" because it's not a feature, it's basic functionality, that you can just not have. Are most people using ShipStation or some other product tied in?
Kind of questioning if I should cut my losses and move to something else before my business gets going full steam. Shopify doesn't even have staff to monitor these forums?
Did you ever figure anything out on this? I'm in the same boat.
Hello @centurionfriend ,
If you are using Shopify shipping, check out the workaround suggested by Shopify staff.
Alternatively, look for an app that supports multiple boxes.
I have looked at the Shipping apps for over an hour. I'm kinda lost as I can't figure out which ones support multiple boxes and which ones don't even though I read the info they provide. Could you point me to 1 or 2 so I could see what wording they use to indicate the support multiple boxes?
What we ended up doing, as we found that customers prefer calculated shipping (they get to decide which shipping service to use). We ended up having to create multiple shipping profiles, with calculated shipping + increased handling fee added to them to make sure it has the right cost. As Shopify only lets you have 1 default box size, instead of different default box sizes per profile...We do also carry really small items, so we can't set the box size to be any thing to big so we currently have our default box at 18 x 6 x 6.
We get a whole big set that can only ship by itself and we create a profile for it. If the previous item that we had, that could only ship by itself has sold out we add the new item in so we don't have to create a profile again. If you have multiples active, you create a new profile for each that needs it.
Alternatively, you find a multiple box app and pay their service fee to make them a bit soother, but some of those apps are a bit complex or costly.
